30 Coolest VA Love Signs near Shenandoah National Park

Since 1969 Virginia’s slogan has been Virginia is for Lovers. Taking off on that, the LOVEworks signs promoting traveling throughout Virginia started in 2013. 

There are over 400 official and unofficial LOVE signs to travel to and see. They are located in small towns, throughout the metropolitan cities, in the mountains, and along the coast.

In today’s world, who doesn’t need a bit more LOVE in their life.  These signs are a bright spot in many communities and an excellent backdrop for a family picture, engagement, or just to remember a great road trip.

There’s no need to go out of your way to see at least a few signs. With so many signs across the state, they will surely be along your route as you enjoy a weekend excursion to the beach, the mountains, or a historical landmark.  So, on your next trip, make it a scavenger hunt to find the LOVE signs along your route.

LOVE signs near Shenandoah National Park

In this post, we will be traveling to the mountains and through the Shenandoah National Park.  We will explore the 30 LOVE signs at each entrance gate that are easy to visit as a Shenandoah National Park vacation side trip or enjoy the route as your sole reason for the journey.

Front Royal Virginia

Apple House Restaurant and Gift Shop

The bright and bold stainless steel LOVEwork sing is the perfect place for a photo opportunity before heading inside for an Apple Butter Cinnamon Donut.

Strasburg LOVE

  • Address: 174 E King St, Strasburg, VA 22657
  • Distance from Entrance Station: 14 miles

Strasburg’s LOVE sign features Hackberrywood from the town’s park. It was built with mortise and tenon joints and wooden pegs for the large red L, V, and E.  The O is a culvert that makes a great place to sit or for little ones to crawl into for a picture.

The LOVE letters were placed in shards of mosaic from the various potteries in the area.

Front Royal Visitors Center

At the Visitors Center Gazebo, you will find Front Royal’s version of LOVE.  The 5-foot letter laser pained by AG Laser Technology of Front Royal showcases the forested, blue, and purple mountains and the sun, sky, and clouds.

The campground’s large wooden LOVE sign sits in a grassy field and offers a built-in bench to sit in front of the O and V.

Hearthstone School

Following in line with Hearthstone School’s motto of peace and love, the school sign was painted on the side of a horse trailer by art teacher Davette Leonard while students at the school took brushes and paint and decorated the lower portion with flowers and insects.

Luray Caverns

Luray Cavern’s LOVEworks sign is hard to miss as you drive along the entrance road.  The large wooden LOVE letters sit to the left of the gas station.  Since Page County and Luray are known as Virginia’s Cabin Capital, logs form the LOVE letters and represent all the log cabins in the area.

Turner’s Body Shop

  • Address: 201 Tannery Rd, Luray, VA 22835
  • Distance from entrance station: 9 miles

In downtown Luray, not far from the fire department on Main Street, you will find Turner’s Body Shop next to some self-storage buildings.  This sign that takes up the whole side of their shop was created with nothing else but car parts.  The unique sign features bumpers, rims, tailgates, and radiators.

Luray-Page County Chamber of Commerce & Visitor Center

  • Address: 18 Campbell St, Luray, VA 22835
  • Distance from entrance station: 9 miles

Just around the corner from Turner’s Body Shop, you will see the hand-painted LOVE letters in front of the Luray-Page County Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center along Business Route 340.  Check inside the Visitor Center for a second love sign.

Swift Run Gap Entrance Station

Downtown Elkton

  • Address: 196 W Spotswood Ave, Elkton, VA 22827
  • Distance from entrance station: 7 miles

The colorful LOVE mural in Downtown Elkton is painted on the side of the building. In the fall of 2020, the Riverbend Elementary School of Elkton’s mural club created and painted the mural representing the Pillars of Character: trustworthiness, caring, respect, responsibility, citizenship, and fairness.

Elkton Town Hall

  • Address: 173 West Spotswood Avenue, Elkton, VA 22827

What began as a temporary LOVE sign in 2017 to advertise the Elkton Autumn Days Festival has turned into a popular town project.  The large wooden letters that spell LOVE and sit near the McDonalds and the Norfolk and Western caboose is one you will want to come back and visit month after month. 

This small town has come to love the LOVE sign, and civic groups, businesses, community members update its look every month to represent the season, holiday, and local events.

Massanutten Resort

  • Address: 3980 Massanutten Drive, Massanutten, VA 22840
  • Distance from entrance station: 15 miles

Massanutten is more than a ski resort. Come feel the love from the Massanutten Property Owners Association staff who created the Massanutten Family Entertainment Center love sign.

When standing beside this huge love sign, you will feel like an ant!  The sign towers over 11 feet tall and stretches 35 feet across.  Be sure to get that wide-angle lens ready for the picture.

Cave Hill Farms Brewery

Lydia Mountain Gift Shop

  • Address: 4375 Spotswood Trail, Stanardsville, VA 22973
  • Distance from entrance station: 4 miles

Along Route 33, four miles east of the Skyline Drive, you will find Lydia Mountain Gift Shop pretty much in the middle of nowhere.  At Lydia Mountain, you will find not one but three Love signs outside. 

The LOVEwork sign is small and sits on the stone wall.  The artist created it from scrap metal, railroad spikes, and a tractor steering wheel. You will also find a painted LOVE sign on the stone wall and a LOVE Lydia Route 33 sign on the corner of the shop

Greene County Vo-Tech

  • Address: 10415 Spotswood Trail, Stanardsville, VA 22973
  • Distance from entrance station: 10 miles

LOVE sign and Quilt lovers alike will want to flock to the Greene County Vo-Tech.  Over 100 barn quilt squares made by the students were used to create this beautiful sign. Not only is it on the LOVEworks map, but also the Quilt Trail.

You can see the Love sign from the Route 33 Bypass around Stanardsville as you driveby, but you will not be able to stop here for a good picture. 

My car’s GPS could not find this sign, so here are the directions.

  • From the Swift Run Gap Entrance Station, drive 9.7 miles on Route 33 heading east. 
  • At the Route 33 and Route 623/Business Route 33 intersection, make a left onto Business Route 33.
  • Immediate right onto Spotswood Trail. 
  • The school is 3/10-mile down the road on your left.

Big Gem Park

  • Address: 736 4th Street, Shenandoah, VA 22849

This lovely park in Shenandoah only displays the love sign during the Christmas holiday season.

Rockfish Gap Entrance Station

Constitution Park

  • Address: Main and McElroy Streets, Waynesboro, VA 22980
  • Distance from entrance station: 5 miles

This great LOVE sign in Constitution Park will make a terrific picture both forwards and backward.  Be sure to look at both sides of this sign since it has a beautifully painted scene on both the front and the back.

South River Greenway

  • Address: Arch Avenue, Waynesboro, VA
  • Distance from entrance station: 7 miles

Enjoy a 1.2-mile stroll along the Greenway and take in the newest LOVE sign in Waynesboro.  The Fishermen and women will enjoy taking a picture beside the river-themed LOVE sign made of hip waders (L), fish that form the V, and the E made of oars.

Stable Craft Brewing

  • Address: 81 Livery Ln, Waynesboro, VA 22980
  • Distance from entrance station: 12 miles

Stable Craft Brewing’s LOVE sign is in front of the Southern-style farmhouse, and the creation reflects the community.  Both the L and the E are made from local wood. The 5-foot O is a tractor tire with a giant cowboy hat.  Kegs that once held Stable Craft beer are stacked to form the V.

Veritas Vineyards

  • Address: 151 Veritas Lane, Afton, VA 22920
  • Distance from entrance station: 4 miles

Above the wine bar at Veritas Vineyard, you will find six-foot-tall letters made of hundreds of wine corks spelling out the letters LOVE.

Wildmandan Beercentric B&B

  • Address: 279 Avon Rd, Afton, VA 22920
  • Distance from entrance station: 7 miles

Even Virginia’s smallest of breweries have joined the LOVE scene with their LOVEworks sign.  Have fun taking pictures around the sign made of four kegs (L), WildManDan’s own logo (O), the piano bar taps’ harp forms the V while a bed frame from the Bed and Breakfast forms the E.

Here you can stay just long enough to snap a picture of the LOVE sign, take a beer class, enjoy a delicious beer, take a tour, or spend the night at the B&B.

Cardinal Point Winery

  • Address: 9423 Batesville Road, Afton, VA 22920
  • Distance from entrance station: 7 miles

Cardinal Point Winery has created its LOVE sign out of six wine barrels.  The L is made out of two large and one small barrel, while one barrel displays the other letters with the V barrel split in half.

Ski Barn at Wintergreen

  • Location: 45 Beech Grove Rd, Roseland, VA 22967
  • Distance from entrance station: 17 miles

The Ski Barn used what they had laying around the shop to create their terrific LOVEwork sign.  The L is made with four colorful snowboards, while the O is a collection of ski helmets stacked together. I bet you can’t guess how the ski shop created the V. Yep, you predicted it – a pair of skis! Finally, the E was created by flip-flopping a collection of colorful ski boots. 

Whether you are in the area during the winter ski season or just passing through on a hot summer day, the Ski Barn is open for all your skiing needs and a chance to take a picture with their LOVE sign.

Claudius Crozet Park

  • Address: 1075 Claudius Crozet Park, Crozet, VA
  • Distance from entrance station: 12 miles

At Crozet Park, you will find a sunny yellow vertical LOVE sign that is you can stand beside, sit on the base of the L or peek through the hole in the O.

A red heart peeks from behind the V and over the E like the sun rising or setting.

Montfair Resort Farm

  • Location: 2500 Bezaleel Dr., Crozet, VA 22932
  • Distance from entrance station: 20 miles

At the entrance of Montfair Resort Farm, you will find a 7-foot high love sign that stretches for over 20 feet of woven branches and twigs. The beautiful backdrop for the sign is the magnificent Blue Ridge Mountains and Browns Cove, VA.

Shady’s Place

  • Distance from entrance station: 19 miles

Prince Michel Vineyard and Winery

  • Address: 154 Winery Lane, Leon, VA 22725
  • Distance from trailhead: 19 miles

At Prince Michel Vineyard and Winery, you will find what looks like four wine barrel tops with hundreds of blue Riesling bottles forming the letters.  Be sure to come when the sun is shining so you can see how the sun shines through the bottle.

The LOVE sign can only be accessed when the winery is open, so check their schedule at princemichel.com.

DuCard Vineyards

  • Address: 40 Gibson Hollow Lane, Etlan, VA 22719
  • Distance from trailhead: 5 miles

At the entrance to DuCard Vineyards, you will see a beautifully detailed metal framework that houses a collection of cobalt blue wine bottles to form each of the LOVE letters.

After your closeup picture with the LOVE sign, head into the tasting room or sit on the patio for other views. Stay for the day and watch how the sun changes the look of the artwork, at times making the bottles look like they are glowing.
