In an effort to promote Virginia’s slogan, “Virginia is for Lovers,” the state began the LOVEwork program in 2013 where businesses, residences, local and state government agencies have created LOVE signs. 

Today there are over 450 official and unofficial LOVE signs across the state. Each sign artistically displays the same four letters, L-O-V-E, in creative displays that showcase the business or area.

Barley Naked Brewing Company

Owner Barry Boyd retired Coast Guard, created the sizeable wooden love sign with white stars on the L.  The O honors each of the five military branches and First Responders, while red stripes and Virginia is for Lover’s slogan highlight the E. The V showcases the brewery’s name and the year it was established in Stafford.

The 6 Bears and Goat, with over 150 years of service in the Coast Guard and Navy, created their LOVE sign to represent themselves and their brewery. 

Learn a bit about the owners as you study the L with Old Glory proudly waving as well as Mae West, the logo of their flagship beer, Mae West Blonde Ale.  The O is portrayed through their life ring logo.  The V showcases both the Coast Guard and Navy emblems and a picture of the bear and goat.  You will find their “simply better brew” tag line on the E among the hop vines.

The L creatively represents all the cultural arts in the area, while the O showcases a map of all the museum locations in Fredericksburg.  The V’s design embodies all the area’s waterways for kayaking, and the E symbolizes both the local drink movement and farm to fork opportunities.
