26 Amazing Things to do in Baltimore in Spring

With flowers blooming and the weather warming up, see all there is to do in Charm City in the spring.

If you’re from the DMV, you know that the weather here is completely bonkers. There are weeks where your outfits could include shorts and a puffy jacket to stay warm. Despite the unpredictable weather, spring in Baltimore is amazing because the weather is perfect; it’s warm but breezy, the sun will be out, but it won’t be humid – perfect!

Here are some things to do in Baltimore to make the most of the gorgeous weather.

Gardens in Baltimore- Sherwood Gardens Park

Have a Picnic Amongst The Tulips

Sherwood Gardens is a beautiful garden in Baltimore, and while it started as a private place, it was soon open to the public because thousands of visitors would go there each spring to take in the stunning views. Presently, their annual spring tulip display usually runs from April to May, though the prime viewing period is usually the last week of April. Take some pictures, have a picnic, and enjoy the great weather.

Take The Kids to The Park

While Sherwood Gardens is an excellent choice for a stroll or a picnic, it may not be the best place for kids to enjoy. Therefore, if you’re out and about with young ones, you might prefer a park with a play area to keep them entertained. Some of my favorite playgrounds in Baltimore are:

  • Federal Hill Park
  • Pierce’s Park
  • Meadowood Regional Park
  • Rogers Forge Tot Lot
  • Oregon Ridge Park Playground
The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore MD

Visit The Maryland Zoo

One of the best things to do in Baltimore is visit over 1,500 animals at the Maryland Zoo. And while you can do this any time of the year, spring is the best time to do so because of the pleasant weather since you’ll be spending most of the time outdoors. It’s fun for all ages and you’ll get some exercise outdoors while also having an educational, interactive experience.

Take Advantage Of Outdoor Seating At Many of Baltimore Restaurants

Baltimore has some wonderful restaurants, many of which have won awards for their chefs, team, food, or customer service. So, when the weather turns nice, everyone wants to spend as much time outdoors as possible – including restaurant-goers! Have a meal at one of the many restaurants in BMore with a patio or deck.

Some of my favorites are:

  • Locust Point Steamers (rooftop deck with panoramic views of the harbor)
  • Nick’s Fish House (live performances during the weekend)
  • Bo Brooks Restaurant (has an outdoor tiki bar!)
  • Barcocina (there’s brunch every day of the week)
  • Loch Bar (over 350 different whiskeys available)
Orioles Baseball Camden Yards

Watch A Baseball Game At Camden Yards

Home to the Baltimore Orioles, Camden Yards is a beautiful place to visit in the spring. It’s right when baseball season starts (end of March/ beginning of April) when the weather is perfect, and the atmosphere is vibrant. If you can time it right, visit during Opening Day for the Orioles – the family-friendly celebrations are fantastic.

Go For A Hike At Loch Raven Reservoir

Loch Raven Reservoir Park is one of my favorite things to do in Baltimore to spend a sunny and cheerful spring day. There are trails for all skill levels, the views are beautiful, and you can spend hours exploring the outdoors. However, if hiking is not your thing, you can also go biking, boating, fishing, or bird watching there.

Baltimore Museum of Art in Maryland

Spend Time In The Outdoor Sculpture Garden At The Baltimore Museum of Art

There are two reasons for the Baltimore Museum of Art to stand out from the many other museums in Baltimore. One, admission is free, and free is always good. Two, they have an outdoor sculpture garden!

You can stroll through the winding path to come across thirty-three sculptures across three acres. The sculptures are modern and stunning, and are perfect to take in while feasting on lunch. Gertrude’s, which is located within the museum, is a great dining choice.

Usually held on the last weekend in April, the Charm City Bluegrass Festival is an unforgettable event for bluegrass music lovers. It’s extremely family-friendly and kids twelve and under can attend for free. The two-day event is hosted live on Druid Hill Park, and both two-day and one-day tickets are available.

The HonFest in Hampden is one of the most popular annual events in Baltimore. While this street festival takes over five blocks of the neighborhood, you will find stages for live music performances, fashion shows, and contests. Furthermore, there are tons of food, craft, corporate, and non-profit vendors with stalls set up throughout the festival.

Preakness Stakes

The Preakness Stakes is held at the Pimlico Racecourse in Baltimore on the third Saturday in May of each year. The American thoroughbred horse race is part of an event-filled weekend that could include private luxury suites, VIP dining, and one of the biggest multi-entertainment festivals (InfieldFest).
